Facilitated by Rachel Broady and Fran Kern, Pulling Together worked on a series of creative writing workshops that produced a wide range of writing, prose and poetry.
Contributors included Sanyia, Hafza, Maryam, Zanab, Ayesha, Salihah, Fahimah, Zarrah, Menaz, Ameena , Shafaa, Tabridah and Zunera.
As the majority of the group members are Muslims we anticipated that religion would be raised in the conversations and writing. However, we were surprised that only one person mentioned her religion in the discussion and writing. This evidence suggests that young Asian women are not obsessed about their religion - all they want is to be fashionable, witty, listen to the latest music and watch a variety of programmes on television. They share the same values as other communities such as the strength of families and they have the same fears and concerns as regards guns & gangs, drugs and other social problems.
