Cakes!

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Through funding from Awards for All and Trafford Neighbourhood Learning, Virginia Valentine was commissioned to deliver workshops that enabled the members to design three individual cakes in various decorative styles using pearls, gems, edible glitter and glue. As the Trafford Neighbourhood Learning workshop was about healthy eating, Virginia produced an exquisite fruit bouquet made up of lots of fruits. Each person then made their own bouquet using mangoes, kiwi, pineapple, gooseberries, oranges and strawberries to name a few. One comment sums up the workshops:

“Decorating cakes with Virginia was not only fun but delicious as well”

Polly Tuga

Polly Tuga

Polly Tuga was created as an Avatar by the young women of Pulling Together. An ‘avatar’ is a computer user’s representation of himself or herself, whether in the form of a three-dimensional model used in computer games, a two-dimensional picture used on internet forums and other communities. However, the Sanskrit word Avatara means “the descent of God” or simply “incarnation.”

I Remember … stories

I remember my baby brother being just one day old. He was really cute. I really liked him then. I also remember the time I went to the Lake District and went on a boat. I thought it was fun because I was only four and it was the most fun ever. I remember my cousin’s birthday party where we did a lot of things - we danced and played lots of games. My cousin was very scared of the man dressed as a Bear - he could not understand it was just a costume. I once went to a football match and I had a lot of fun because all of my cousins and I were screaming very loud and having fun.
The first time I went to Gloucester to meet my uncle’s in-laws was a lot of fun because we got on really well.

I remember when I went on holiday to Wales. It was so hot. We lived next to a play area and opposite a swimming pool. I went crazy with happiness. We always walked to the beach. Once I dug a massive hole with my new bucket and spade.

I remember my first day at High School, when my mum had my little baby brother and sister, (twins). I remember the first day I came to Pulling Together - I am so glad that I started coming here - otherwise I had nothing to do all weekend. I think it is fun to do so many different things from crafts, to trips to writing and now we will have our own website on which we can put information on.. I remember when I went to Jamaica with my family. We went to Dunn River Falls and went swimming with dolphins, jet skiing and horse riding in the water. We did lots more in the hotel which was called Sea Palms. The best part was when we went to the pool and the beach was wicked as well.

I remember when I was at Play scheme and I was sharing a Kit Kat with my friend. Suddenly my other friend ran towards me and accidentally her glasses cut my eyebrow. I had to go and see the doctor. He told my mum that I needed to have butterfly stitches, I was so frightened that I ran out of the room and straight into our car. My mum took me back in and I had the stitches - but it did not hurt - I was frightened for nothing.
